This summer the long awaited Inside Out 2 arrived in movie theaters. The sequel follows main character Riley and her emotions, with the addition of some new ones, while attending ice hockey camp in anticipation of the upcoming school year. She attends with her two best friends from her middle school and faces strife trying to balance her camaraderie and feelings towards them and the varsity-level ice hockey returners at her new high school.
The original came out in 2015 and everyone was eager to see the addition of new emotions to the original cast star in this sequel. They were joined by the likes of Ayo Edibiri, Maya Hawke, and Adèle Exarchopoulos playing Envy, Anxiety, and Ennui.
I watched the movie with friends in July and I had very high expectations when going to watch it because of the persistent social media marketing and nostalgic feelings I had about the original Inside Out. On TikTok and Instagram, I consistently saw edits of the movie made by influencers and so when I saw the movie I felt like I was watching something more undeveloped than I was hoping for. I would give this movie 3.5 out of 5 stars because it felt like an extension of these clips and was too anticlimactic for me due to this overexposure. However, I felt very sentimental about watching this film because of the full-circle satisfaction it gave me and the accurate portrayal of a girl entering her first year of high school.
Presently, it is still showing in theaters and is available on YouTube to preorder for about $30, but also available on streaming services like Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and Apple TV.
