As Thanksgiving break approaches, GA’s Upper School students have been preparing for an electric production of Mean Girls High School Version! I strongly encourage ALL of you to head on over to Massey to watch and support all of our friends. Just days before opening night I caught up with some of them to see how they’re going to make fetch happen. 😉
Abigail Cook ’27 – Regina George
How long have you been doing theater?
Oh, since I was like seven or eight.
What’s your favorite musical production you’ve ever been in?
Definitely Mean Girls. Or we did Matilda in the 8th grade, that was really fun.
What’s your favourite song in Mean Girls?
“World Burn.”
Can’t wait to hear that. What are you most excited to get out of this production?
I don’t know. It’s just a fun experience. You get to bond with people who are in different grades.
Finally, what’s your favorite line you say in the play?
“Don’t apologize for things that aren’t your fault.”
That’s a good one. I love it!
Rae Dodds ’26
Gretchen Wieners
How long have you been doing theater?
Oh my gosh, I’ve been doing it for so long. Probably since first grade, since I could sing pretty much.
That is very long! What’s your favorite musical you’ve ever been in?
Probably Pippin. That was my sophomore year. That was really fun.I was just a feature dancer, But it was still so much fun. Yeah, I think that was just the most fun I’ve ever had on stage in a show. It was a really good cast and that made it really nice. So I would say either Pippen or Newsies. That was my freshman year. That was also really good.
I remember seeing Newsies. It was really fun to watch! What’s your favorite song that you sing In Mean Girls?
Oh, I have this one song called “What’s Wrong With Me,” and that one’s really good, but it’s really sad.
Oh, why?
It’s like my character is questioning why Regina’s being mean to her, and it’s like she wants validation. It’s a really sad song, but I really like singing it. It’s a good song.
That’s nice. What are you most excited about for this musical?
Oh, I’m excited just to be with the cast on stage. I mean, we’ve put a lot of effort in and I think, I don’t know, it’s my last show and I am doing it with all my friends, so I’m excited just to have those final moments.
And now lastly, what’s your favorite line that you say in the whole musical?
I think my favorite line is—this is kind of a long one—I go, “Sometimes I feel like an iPhone without a case. I know I’m worth a lot and I have a lot of good functions, but at any point I could just shatter.” I think that one’s really funny,
Karina Layman ’26 – Karen Smith
How long have you been doing theater?
Since eighth grade.
Have you been in a lot of musical productions or do you usually do plays?
Yeah, I’ve been in a lot of musicals. I’ve done one play, but I’ve done a lot of musicals.
What play?
I was in Women, which was like a spinoff of Little Women, and I performed it in Scotland when GA went on the trip my end of sophomore year.
So it was fun.
What’s your favourite musical you’ve been in?
Ooh. Oh my gosh. Um…I think A Chorus Line. That was my favorite. That was my freshman year. Or, um… Ooh, Newsies!
Newsies was so fun to watch! What’s your favourite song in Mean Girls that you perform?
Oh my gosh, I’ve never thought about that. Probably mine. It’s called “Sexy.”
Ooooh! What are you most excited about the play in general?
I’m just excited to perform for everyone because I don’t really sing that much for the school or assemblies and stuff. So it’s always fun when I get to perform for everybody.
Amazing. Lastly, what’s your favorite line in Mean Girls?
“I can cure sex cancer.”
Eva Solano ’26 – Cady Heron
How long have you been doing theater?
For a lot of my life—ever since, like, I was five, I feel like. I’ve just been in musicals and it’s always been really fun.
What’s your favorite production that you’ve been in?
I probably have to say the one that I’m in right now. It’s really fun, and maybe a close second would be like when I was eight, because that was also really fun.
What’s your favorite song you sing in the play?
Definitely “Stupid With Love,” because it’s really catchy and it gets stuck in my head all the time.
Can’t wait to hear it. What are you most excited about?
The part about it that I’m most excited about is singing in front of everyone and just really being in my character and seeing the audience truly enjoy the production.
What’s your favorite line?
Probably, it’s a line that a lot of people know: “I can’t spend every minute with you. It’s not my fault you’re like in love with me or something.” I love that one.
