Now Playing: Taylor Swift

GAP goes to ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’—should you?

Opening weekend for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was nearly sold out! The movie was showing everywhere, and Taylor Swift herself even surprised 13 random theaters. I’m a pretty big Swiftie myself, so I decided to watch it in theaters to see what all the hype was about.

The Experience
This two-and-a-half-hour long movie did not leave me bored. It was quite literally the concert—just on film! I watched Taylor performing each of her eras, singing three or four songs from each one. Since the movie was a filmed version from one of her last shows on her U.S. tour in California, the surprise songs were FANTASTIC. It’s also a very interactive experience, with the crowd singing and dancing to their favorite songs. I wasn’t too overwhelmed, but it was most definitely not a silent theater. The crowd’s age range was also very broad, and there were mostly women. However, no matter your age or gender, if you love Taylor Swift, this is a great activity.

What People Were Wearing
The outfits at this movie were much different that what a normal movie crowd would wear. No one was lacking spirit, and there were limited cozy, basic outfits. I predict people will be more casual in the coming weekends, as the biggest Swifties probably saw it opening weekend, with more dramatic outfits. I’d say that viewers were dressed in a toned down version of what Swifties wore to the in person Eras Tour. The wardrobe ranged from vibrant T-shirts and preppy comfortable clothes, to jazzed up skirts and dresses of different Eras. Some young Swifties got creative and managed to design homemade “Junior Jewels” T-shirts—SO fun!

My Take
If you never got to experience Taylor in person on her Eras Tour, this is the next best option. The cinematography was certainly not lacking. Views of Taylor, the stage, and her dancers were crystal clear from every angle. You feel completely immersed in all the dancing, singing, and stage effects, almost like you’re there in person. Not only is this an entertaining, well-shot movie, but the crowd is interactive and enthusiastic! So, whether you’re a Swiftie, or looking for a fun activity on a rainy day, I’d highly recommend seeing Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour in theaters. You will be entertained!
