State+of+the+Gators
Exciting home games, great wins on the road, impressive meet times, and a successful regatta. GA Gators are heading into Spirit Week with the wind at their back.
Crew
Led by captains Kristen Isherwood ’24 and Juhi Desai ’24, GA’s crew team is a squad of both new teammates and seasoned returners for the 2023 season. In GA’s first regatta of the season on Sept. 30 in Poughkeepsie, NY, the team took home first place in one race and fourth in another, marking an incredibly successful first day racing out on the water. With head coach Paul Casey helming the program for the second year, the crew team will look to continue its success at regattas in the future, including the esteemed Head of the Charles on Oct. 20.
Cross Country
GA’s cross country team has had plenty of exposure to competition this season, with meets at Wilton High School, Sherwood Island, Canterbury, and Brunswick. At the team’s latest meet at Canterbury, Lily Lyons ’26 won the race for GA with a time of 18:53, leading GA to finishing third place with a team score of 97. Maddy Lee, a senior captain for the Gators, placed third with an impressive 19:26. With these competitive scores and continuing progress, the 2023 season is sure to be a good one for the cross country squad, which has upcoming meets at Loomis Chaffee and Waveny Park.
Field Hockey
Captained by seniors Caroline Busler ’24 and Brooke Bertrand ’24, GA field hockey’s start to the fall has been an exciting one. The team kicked off the year with various scrimmages in August and September, before beating GCDS, Choate, Hopkins, and St. Luke’s. The team also had a great run at the annual National High School Invitational Tournament in Pennsylvania, with a nice win against New Trier. Despite losses to Hotchkiss and Taft, the Gators will look to rebound against Kent, RCDS, and GFA in the coming weeks.
Soccer
With captains Molly Moore ’24, Lola Tirabassi ’24, and Este Tejpaul ’25 leading this year’s soccer team, it is sure to be a successful season. Early on, the Gators brought home wins against King, Holy Child, and Hamden Hall, starting off the year strong. Although suffering losses to Sacred Heart and GCDS, the team still has many exciting games to come, and they’ll look to match their early-season success in games against RCDS, Hopkins, and Tabor in October.
Volleyball
GA’s volleyball team has started off the year on a great note, notching early wins against GCDS and Holy Child, led by Casey Brower ’24 and Mariana Marti ’24. Despite a loss in early October to the Masters School, the team will look to turn their record around in upcoming games against Sacred Heart, Miss Porter’s, and Hamden Hall.
