Want to “lock in” for the year ahead but also enjoy the fall aesthetic? Here are some songs to get in the mood for school and listen to throughout fall. Think of this as a best-of—there are lots more songs on my Spotify playlist: “fall ☕️.”
“Northern Attitude” by Noah Kahan & Hozier
Noah Kahan AND Hozier on the same song? Sign me up. “Northern Attitude” is such a fitting song for driving through Greenwich on a cold fall day. Disclaimer: Adding Hozier to a song that already makes you want to run through the woods only increases the likelihood of it happening.
“Renegade (feat. Taylor Swift)” by Big Red Machine
Even if you are a Taylor Swift fan, you might not have heard of this because although she is the only one singing, Big Red Machine is the artist behind the song. Although “Renegade” has a livelier beat than the rest of the songs in this list, it describes a relationship where someone deals with mental health issues, expressing compassion and disappointment. If you aren’t a Swiftie, I highly recommend listening to this song, as it is one of my personal favorites.
“Linger (Sirius XM Session)” by Royel Otis
Otis’ cover of the Cranberries classic song “Linger” is one of the best, especially for fall. If you don’t recognize it, you have probably heard it making its rounds on TikTok since Otis’ rendition is almost better than the original.
“Back to the Old House” by The Smiths
Don’t worry, “This Charming Man” and more are included in the playlist but “Back to the Old House” has to be highlighted because of its melancholy and nostalgic sounds that scream fall.
“The Gold” by Manchester Orchestra & Phoebe Bridgers
“The Gold” is the saddest song on this list, but Phoebe Bridgers’ voice makes it addicting to listen to and it will definitely put you in the mood for staring out the window, admiring the colors of fall.
“Girl From the North Country” by Bob Dylan with Johnny Cash
It’s another iconic duo on another amazing song. “Girl From the North Country” is perfect for all of you country lovers. To be clear, it is more Zach Bryan than Morgan Wallen and the vibes are driving through the woods when the leaves are orange and falling.
“1979” by The Smashing Pumpkins
“1979” is so coming-of-age movie coded, in the best way possible. It contains the happiness and suffering that accompanies youth and has a very atmospheric sound, transporting you right into the height of fall when you want to feel more relaxed.
