Hello readers! I know we’re all a bit hiccuped having to get back into uniform these past couple months. I’m sure as some of you are rotating your closet, you’re wondering how to adapt to fall while still sticking within school protocol. As the first quarter of school comes to a close, here are few trends I’ve seen take the wheel on campus this season.
Uggs
As the leaves start to change, so does GA’s festive environment: Uggs have taken over as GA’s footwear of choice. You’ll notice them in all varieties all over campus—Ugg minis, Tasman Uggs, Ugg slippers. I even spotted a pair with cute furry pom-poms. Perfect for windy fall weather, Uggs provide a simple comfort for students. “Whenever I’m struggling to find shoes to pair with my outfits, uggs are an easy choice. They’re warm and comfortable, they’ve become my go-tos, especially in the colder months.” With temperatures dropping, you can match cooler path walks with some cool of your own. Stay cute and cozy with Uggs—perfect for your romanticized Gilmore Girls fall. Pro tip: Don’t wear them in the rain!
Fitted Sweaters
The iconic preppy fitted sweater is making a run back to modern GA fashion. It’s the perfect touch for an academic look, updated from its ’90s old money aesthetic. For those who like to change with the seasons, this sweater can help you fulfill your prim and proper autumn private school fantasy. Paired with our uniquely colored kilt, these tops can replace a normal long sleeve shirt when the weather gets chillier. Noted label: Ralph Lauren, which comes in iconic logo as well as other vintage patterns. If you’re one to follow the dress code, these sweaters match perfectly with a white GA polo (or whatever cool color combos you come up with!).
Quarter Zips
Quarter Zips have been popular for the complicated, in-between weather of early fall. Dating from 1930, quarter and half zips were originally made in fleece for sportswear. The concept was for athletes to be able to open the zip and air out when they’re hot, and zip it up when they get cold. Perfect for Connecticut days when the weather can rise 20 degrees hotter before fourth period. Just like the polo sweater, this item has made its way out of the athletic and athleisure categories and is now established for more formal styling aesthetics. GA girls wear it as an easy piece to pair with the uniform, while still maintaining a neat look for school. Popular brands at GA include Aritzia and Aerie, which offer an oversized look. They’re typically fleece or cotton—a warm option that’s a nice light feeling before we all have to deal with puffer coat season.
Flare Leggings
Like history, fashion always repeats itself. The ’80s trend of flare leggings is back and not just for the gym. Girls wear it now as a comfortable, flexible piece that can be polished or casual. “It’s a comfortable thing to keep you warm and still be cute,” one GA wearer said. Popular brands include Lululemon, Athleta, and Aerie, meaning they are still made in usual Spandex. These leggings will sustain you through the extensive walking that comes with the GA school day while still being simple enough to pair with your kilt.
