Last spring, we elected six stellar leaders to guide us through the 2023-2024 school year. Now, they have begun their terms, and we can’t wait to see what this Forum has in store for us. Keep reading to learn about their goals and objectives for the Upper School this year—as well as some fun facts about themselves.
Melina Salame ’24
President
What do you hope to achieve this year as President?
Overall I just want to make GA a more enjoyable place and really emphasize the positive aspects of the environment. I want to bring fun to every day, as I think it’s so important to focus on the little things that take no time, brighten people’s day, and just generally make it more fun.
What’s something you are looking forward to this year?
One thing I am really looking forward to is the spring because when the weather is really nice, it is so much easier to plan events, and I think people get really amped over things! I’m excited to hopefully do some fun things outside. I’m also just excited to be working with the group of people who are in forum because they are so awesome and so good at their jobs.
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
There are two things I couldn’t live without. One is yogurt-covered raisins because they are my favorite study snack, and the other is gum because I always like to be chewing gum.
Brooke Bertrand ’24
Vice President
What do you hope to achieve this year as Vice President?
This year as Vice President of GA, my biggest goal is to create a safe atmosphere where all students feel comfortable to be open and honest with each other. This will encourage each student to abide by Greenwich Academy’s standards of integrity, discipline, and honesty, on and off campus. I also hope to blur any divisions between grades so students of all ages can get to know each other better in a genuine manner. Lastly, I will encourage each student to not only give back to our school community but also come together and get involved in supporting our local community through various means.

What’s something you are looking forward to this year?
I am looking forward to getting to know each student and faculty member better, as well as getting to know GA’s new head of school, Ms. Hazlett!
Cash Lahey ’24
President of the Arts Board
What do you hope to achieve this year as the art rep?
This year as the Arts Board rep, I’m looking to find big and small ways to incorporate art into our everyday lives. I hope to use creativity and collaboration to strengthen our school and the arts community.
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
I could not live without my Spotify playlists. Whether I’m studying or in the shower, I need to be listening to music.

I am looking forward to working together with other Arts Board reps and finding ways to connect all of the younger grades!
Amelia Lewis ’24
President of the Athletics Board
What do you hope to achieve this year as the athletics rep?
One thing I really want to achieve this year is getting more support and students at home games.
What is your slogan?
Go big or go home!
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
One thing I couldn’t live without is my friends and family…but especially my dogs.
What’s something you are looking forward to this year?
Playing with all of my teammates one last time.
Natalie Cook ’24
President of Community Engagement
What do you hope to achieve this year as the community service president?
As the Community Service President at Greenwich Academy for the 2023-2024 school year, my primary goal is to foster a give-and-take support system between every department of our in-school community. The field hockey team will fill the auditorium for the fall musical, and the cast of the spring play will cheer at track and field meets in green and gold from head to toe. Appreciation for all that our gators can do–whether it’s drawing, swimming, lacrosse, writing, or robotics–will bring us together and bolster student confidence. Additionally, together we have more power to collect resources and ideas that can effectively bring help to those who need it outside of our school and in our wider community. Mutual support will help us embody our motto, ad ingenium faciendum, on and off of school grounds.
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
I couldn’t live without Madrigals on school days.
What’s something you are looking forward to this year?
I am looking forward to wearing the Gator suit at sports games, even though lower schoolers always try to rip off the Gator head and reveal my humanity to everyone.
Jamilah Roselin ’24
President of the DEI board
What do you hope to achieve this year as the DEI rep?
There is so much I want to do, but one thing I want to do for sure is bring in more people for heritage/cultural months. Last year we invited Ayanna Gregory, Dick Gregory’s daughter, and her performance was amazing. I also had the pleasure of speaking with her afterward, and I learned so much about her life and impact on our community. I would love to create more opportunities like that throughout the year.

What was your campaign slogan?
My campaign was all about feeling like you belong. No one should feel they must fit into a specific box to be a “true” GA student. It sounds cliche, but we all make our community. Our interests, identities, cultures…we’re all unique and deserve to have the space–literally and figuratively–to celebrate them.
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
I know it’s not technically a thing, but I can’t live without music.
What’s something you are looking forward to this year?
Honestly, I just want to make the most of this year. It’s bittersweet that it’s my last year at GA; there are a lot of things that I’ll be doing for the last time, but it’s also the start of a new chapter (kind of cheesy, I know).
