As we transition into winter sports, let’s take a second to celebrate the great wins and successes of the fall season: Varsity soccer and field hockey secured great wins over Sacred Heart. Cross country placed second in the FAA Championship. Crew wrapped up their last regatta. And volleyball made it to the NEPSAC quarterfinals. Cheers, all!
Now, we transition into the winter season, featuring basketball, squash, swimming and diving, ice hockey, and skiing. This week marks the start of the winter season, with games, meets, and matches continuing in the weeks ahead. Be sure to show your support and cheer on your friends on the court, ice, pool, or slopes!
Basketball
This year, varsity basketball is led by senior Ruby Montanez and junior Mirabel Rodgers. They are excited to kick off their season with a home game against Miss Porter’s on followed by an away game at RCDS. The team is coached by Jordan Griffith and Maia Hood. Last year, they had notable wins against Hopkins and Masters.
Ice Hockey
Ice Hockey has one junior captain, Ella Loehnis, and two senior captains, Lila Cabot and Caroline Watts. Their first game is at home tomorrow against Portlaugh. The team is coached by Erin Brawley, Jordan Brickner, and Sally Maloney. Last year, they had a strong season with notable wins against Sacred Heart and Darien High School.
Skiing
The ski team is led by junior captain Emma Jones and coached by Katie Kraunelis and Krystyn Martin. Last year, they had a fantastic season with three girls placing in NEPSAC races. The team looks forward to their upcoming races on the mountain.
Squash
Varsity Squash is captained by three seniors—Anniston Mahaffy, Grace Fazzinga, and Charlotte Pastel—who are all committed to UVA. The team is coached by Luke Butterworth and their first two matches are against Hotchkiss and Kent. Last year, they had an outstanding season, winning the FAA championship and dominating nearly every match.
Swimming & Diving
Swimming & Diving is led by captains Salma Thomas and Bryce Gold for the 2024-2025 season. Their first two meets are away at Hamden Hall and Exeter. The team is guided by a new head coach, Megan Kelly, alongside Lauren Allen and Paul Casey. Last year, they triumphed at the FAA championship with a significant win over Sacred Heart.
