The Silent Patient, written by Alex Michaelides, is as thrilling as it is relevant in today’s world. The instant bestseller is set in a psychiatric care facility and narrated by one of the psychotherapists, Theo Faber. Theo writes about his patient, well-known painter Alicia Berenson. She lived a completely normal life until one night when she shot her husband in the face. After the shooting, she resides in a psychiatric hospital, refusing to speak. It is only when Theo becomes her psychotherapist that she begins to explore her traumas. Parts of the novel show excerpts from Alicia’s diary, riddled with clues that subtly foreshadow a huge twist at the end. This book is a perfect winter read and I suggest pairing it with a hot mug of tea and a warm blanket to get the full experience. Happy reading!
